I did not know Wink, but followed her blog for years and posted her beautiful crochet patterns on this blog. Her patterns were always filled with so much color and creativity. My heart goes out to her friends and family.
Her younger sister wrote of Wink’s death on her blog:
When Wink started this crochet blog back in 2011 she told you guys how crochet saved her live. As you might know Wink was in a dark period of her life the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately I have to tell you that last Friday it did not save her, her depression got the best of her and she took her own life. We are all very heart broken by this news, it was an absolute shock to all of us. She is leaving a mom, dad, little brother and sister and her loving boyfriend behind.
There is a collective crochet project going on for Wink – #MandalasForMarinke: Crochet Project In Memory of Wink from A Creative Being. Please go to the link for more information.
Even though we don’t celebrate Independence Day here in the UK I couldn’t resist using taking the opportunity to design a little project for my American crafty friends.
This little fella is patriotic with his red, white & blue fondant and a star on top to finish.
This fun little cupcake is 9.5cm and designed to be made from felt.

Few rows, basic stitches and a special edge that can really be the highlight of the design. Not very heavy for not so cold weather but it could have a lot more rows of double crochet (UK triple crochet) in the beginning and it would also look great. And in a light color it would be nice also. It’s all made in one seamless piece, in the round in closed rows
